SULUK

Woven on a jacquard loom, the cloth carries a density that reveals itself slowly. Nearly two hundred warp threads per inch are drawn and tensioned, forming a field of over ten thousand threads, each aligned before the pattern can emerge. The structure is exacting, yet the surface remains alive — the warp yarns are tie-dyed before weaving, leaving faint tonal shifts that move across the ground.

The weft defines the pattern, lifting the geometry into relief. Linen and cotton are combined at different weights, their uneven interaction producing a surface that is both precise and irregular — a controlled disturbance within the grid.

Suluk refers to a tradition of Javanese mystical poetry, often recited rather than read — knowledge carried through cadence and breath, learned through repetition rather than explanation..
